Sounds of Sennheiser – Why you need new headphones

Sennheiser teamed up with Currys and PC World and invited me to the ultimate music event, having such a love for music and having recently lost my set of headphones to a curious cat, naturally I said yes. Eager to find out whether my next pair should be a Sennheiser  investment I was excited to try them out.

What night, cocktails, sliders and canapes to keep it cool whilst everyone mingled and took a little look at the shiny new headphones Sennheiser are releasing on their 70th anniversary, though this felt more like an awesome birthday party to me.

Cat Foley Survival Survival Sounds of Sennheiser

The night sparked up with a collection of activities – DJ masterclasses took place with John the Baptist, an up and coming British DJ… we say masterclasses, I’m not sure I mastered anything despite his brilliant techniques, but it was good fun (I’ll stick with just putting in my requests and dancing my toosh off).

I had a look at modern vinyls and let me say it here first – they’re back! Take that MP3! But this time they’re distinguishingly white – looking mucho modern! And let’s be honest, where music is concerned bigger is better, bigger sounds, bigger quality, bigger entertainment and these new vinyls give oh so much more!

Cat Foley Survival Survival Sounds of Sennheiser

Sennheiser told us about their new model, Momentum 2.0 which they has been released in time for their 70th anniversary – to firstly say they’re pretty damn near indestructable, with wires that have been tried and tested, bent and flex to the point of exhaustion (10,000 times if I remember correctly) whilst the frame itself is made of super flexible and durable stainless steel, the headphones are guaranteed for two years with all individually replaceable elements – I did mention my cat that loves to chew headphone wires (something that I imagine any level of quality would be hard pushed to survive unscathed!) But this is a level of high quality which we already know has been associated with Sennheiser since their conception – their quality is assured, how else can you remain in such a swiftly evolving industry for so long.

Cat Foley Survival Survival Sounds of Sennheiser

Though the quality of build is noticeably another level up with stainless steel flexibility, there’s an visually noticeable difference with the Momentum 2.0, they’re not only practical but they’re fashion conscious, they’re luxurious to the point that the size makes the statement even stronger, it’s a plus point not an inconvenience – you want these headphones hanging off your bag for a statement.

Really? I hear you ask. Why? Well, there’s the luxury leather that contrasts against the flexible stainless steel, these babies come in either ivory or black and basically – I love them! I mean, it’s one of those items you’d purchase and keep protected like a treasure for fear of any damage for a good year and then find afterwards that even without all the fuss they’re still hanging off your bag relentlessly and proving to be worth their investment years later – classic yet luxurious.

Plus for people like me who like to completely block out the noise whilst listening to the Les Miserables soundtrack (oh the emotion!) these are the perfect, complete and utter escapism delivered by high quality sound through the most beautiful and comfortable headset. This is the sound of dreams. And admittedly I’ve never invested in a pair of top quality headphones, I’ve certainly never bought any over ear ones (not since the bright red ones on my cassette tape player circa 1993) but I have to say, hands up – I’ve been missing out.

Cat Foley Survival Survival Sounds of Sennheiser

Having done this for 70 years I’d say they’ve stepped into a new market of fans and bring with them the revival of better sound.

Cat Foley Survival Survival Sounds of Sennheiser

What do you think, would you wear over ear headphones? And would you be willing to pay more for a quality product over a fashionable cheaper brand?

London Fashion Week: Backstage at Fyodor Golan

How to best reflect upon this year’s experience at London Fashion Week? The clothes, the flawless faces with their poses stuck hard on the runway and the equally practiced faces in the sidelines, focused intently on the next season’s key features.

Cat Foley Survival Survival London Fashion Week LFW Fyodor Golan SS16 Backstage Behind the Scenes

Then I really thought about the clothes, the models and more so about the utter chaos conducted in harmony behind the catwalk screen and concealed from the public eye. Characters that exposed themselves only to blanket their expressions on departing to the other side.

My reflection on London Fashion Week is not so much on the cuts, trends or colours, but who’s behind the people, the emotions and the collective processes that go into the three minute catwalk. This may, for some, be less interesting than LFW street style and the SS16 trends to come. But for them there are hundreds, dare I say thousands of other sources to find their requirements.

Cat Foley Survival Survival London Fashion Week LFW Fyodor Golan SS16 Backstage Behind the Scenes

Fashion industry chaos quite unlike anything and it’s relentless – it’s hot, sweaty and bright. Where, “oh sorry” translates to, “get out of my way that’s my shot, she’s posing for me”, followed by a sharp elbow and a nudge, by which point the model’s moved and you’ve both lost the shot. No, there’s no time for sorry – just elbows and balls.

Cat Foley Survival Survival London Fashion Week LFW Fyodor Golan SS16 Backstage Behind the Scenes

It’s a beehive, where roles are assigned en masse and doing three things at once is a minimum requirement. Models walk around nonchalantly whilst the swarms of team members, hair dressers, make-up artists, stylists and everyone in between from corporate photographers, PAs, runners and too many assistants to count, buzz about them in a mad blur of apparently organised activity.

Cat Foley Survival Survival London Fashion Week LFW Fyodor Golan SS16 Backstage Behind the Scenes

Hair, nails and make-up happen simultaneously and transition flawlessly as the models  then make a miraculous change from their effortlessly chic day looks, this ofcourse means they’re assisted by several people into their outfit for the final run. Accessories on, final retouches to the hair seconds before exit, game face on and strut.

Cat Foley Survival Survival London Fashion Week LFW Fyodor Golan SS16 Backstage Behind the Scenes

It’s a small wall that divides the antithesis of atmosphere, of character, of passion and effort between backstage and catwalk. So, unlike the effortless shots I’ve previously posted from London Fashion Week – the cool faces, smooth struts and bright clean catwalks – this time I captured a few moments of the stillness in the chaos, character in the pose and the effort made to create the effortless.

The dressing lights around the mirrors mostly removed to reduce the heat in the room as sweaty brows and humid hair provided just one more challenge.

Looking at her you wouldn’t guess she was hitting the catwalk for the first time, confident and bold against the blur of the process. But on first talking to Kenna she was giggling nervously. Kenna, both a good friend, owner of Kennaland and the head hair stylist for EVO on the Fyodor Golan SS16 LFW show. (Amongst other things, one very busy man.)

Before this I knew his job is to make hair look great. Everyday he devises the logic of a designers collection, rationalises the style, considers the texture, cut, colour and design to reflect it. It’s clear before this moment I underestimated his role, in fact, he’s intrinsic in boosting confidence, to making the model fit the hairstyle, to making them own it. That’s actually why she looks so confident in that photo. Looking at her below, hands up awkwardly and smiling, she’s only just easing into her role as catwalk model, she had  earlier asked another model how she should walk. A reminder that there’s a lot hidden behind their stern, posed faces, perfect make-up and postured struts.

The final spray, Kenna stands at the end to give one last touch to the hair before they hit the catwalk. A phone shot in front of me just as I clicked my camera, much like most of these images I captured the relentless movement of the backstage (even if it was unintentional at times).

At this point the models, lined and ready to go, give the photographers the final shots of their outfits. These moments offer up the stark contrast of character from the models between the flashes…

The buzz of the hive becomes physical at this point with the movement of the photographers bustling for the shot, the flashes of the camera, the calls for a stare down the lens – the money shot.

Handbags & Gladrags: Interview with Designer Tabitha Webb & Glamour Magazine Editor, Jo Elvin

Last month I interviewed fashion designer, Tabitha Webb and Tabitha Talks special guest, Glamour Magazine Editor, Jo Elvin for Belgravia Residents’ Journal.

It was an evening spent with lovely ladies, both Tabitha, Jo and the other guests, not to mention some beautiful clothes! Definitely worth a little nosey.

Blogger Swap Shop time!

The third Voucher Codes Blogger Swap Shop took place last week, it’s a lovely little event that invites some of the UK’s top fashion bloggers to revive their wardrobe without spending a penny. Yes, we all love free shopping! This meant it was time to find a few lovely items of clothing that, though purchased with love, never quite worked for me. Either worn once or tried on multiple times, never making it out of the house, they are the misjudged purchases, well intentioned gifts and the wrong sizes that just won’t ever work –  no matter how I try to pull them off, they were meant to be anothers. So thankfully Voucher Codes gave me the option to swap them with other fashion bloggers’ fashion mishaps, in the hope it may find its way to the rightful owner and loving new wardrobe.

As usual the affair was a well attended and hosted even better, Anna Mae’s Mac’n’Cheese were serving up hot variations on the classic, including Spicy Juan – with chipotle, jalapenos and sour cream, whilst another variety involved crispy bacon bits and onion  bits… Sherin went for the Original Mac

Cat Foley Survival Survival Voucher Codes Fashion Blogger Swap ShopTypically, my wheat and dairy intolerance was a pain in the gut so I found myself launching towards the most dainty macaroon tier. It would be rude not to try every flavour and in doing so I can truly say the salted caramel was incredible, closely followed by the chocolate (that’s the bright pink one) I absolutely loved devoured them. So much so I had to bring some home for my housemate to enjoy too (our Thailand diets are going really well!)

In-between the swapping, cocktails were supped and Twistina fashioned balloons for headdresses for those who fancied accessorising… but once again, I found myself more intrigued by the macaroons (trying out a couple more flavours) and trying on some hats… but learning to personalise and accessorize was the game for those who had a) settled their bags of swapped clothes and fancied a mingle and b) had enough of the food and drink on offer.. neither of these options applied to me, even after I had finished my swapping (one more macaroon please), so I didn’t venture towards the pins, glitter and glue.. Though I imagine my little sister would have been in craft heaven there!

Cat Foley Survival Survival Voucher Codes Fashion Blogger Swap ShopOnce again a well curated and beautifully sponsored event, I found myself two great pairs of heels, one pair by Fearne Cotton for Very and another stunning pair of black, platform, peep-toe stilettos, a girl can truly never have too many.

Cat Foley Survival Survival Voucher Codes Fashion Blogger Swap Shop

I also picked up a basic coral cami from Matalan, a luxury knitted jumper from Boden – despite it being a larger size than I would usually buy, it’s cropped and it works really well oversized with such chunky knit, plus it’s sparkly thread is perfect for the festive season. I also picked up a real statement dress, which is definitely a contender for my Christmas party outfit. In fact, the style challenge for this years SwapShop was pretty glamorous! The novel thing when I picked up this dress was that it had a label in it, previously owned by interior design blogger The Fairytale Pretty Picture, I saw it and had to have it and also wondered how it hadn’t already been swooped up!

I also recieved a lovely goodie bag full of treats from Boden, Matalan, Dorothy Perkins, PopChips, Propercorn and Chatty Feet.  Best of all, all the clothes leftover were given to charity.

Swap shops are a great idea to clear out some of those unwanted items, you could even organise one with friends or at work rather than giving them straight to charity or putting them on ebay..

PANDORA: Now granting wishes

To say they grant your wishes may be a slight exaggeration, they offer wish lists so that your partner, friend, mum or sibling can buy you what you might actually like for Christmas… If what you want is PANDORA that is – See there are a few catches. Saying that, I don’t think I’d turn my nose up at a nice statement ring from a tall, dark, devilishly good looking man. (I ask for very little)

So last week I popped down to the launch of Pandora Wishes with partner in crime, Sherin to see what all the fuss was about. And then I got it, there it was… A massive Pandora Wishes pick’n’mix sweet stall! And my handsome man, he had multiplied into many handsome men baring champagne and canapés! Well, clearly they got my memo.

After bumping Abbey Clancy out of the way at the sweet stand, we thought we’d listen to what the fuss was about with the promo celebs upstairs. Couples, Rochelle and Marvin Humes, Louise and Jamie Redknapp and Channel 4 presenting duo, Jameela Jamil and Rick Edwards all spoke about how jewellery makes their identity, how they adore the ability to stack the rings, how perfect the wish list is for their clueless partners. Basically we stood there waiting to find out if I had won the £250 vouchers or not and Sherin was shamelessly fangirling (that’s definitely a word) on TOWIE.. No no, Made in Chelsea star, whatshisface…Pratlove.. Proudloud.. Anyway, I pushed her towards him and took this pic, she was thrilled. Sadly I didn’t win the vouchers, but as they say, one out of two ain’t bad!

Cat Foley Survival Survival Pandora Wishes Christmas Oxford Street London

All in all it was a fun and well hosted event, the idea behind PANDORAwishes is pretty failsafe for the fuss pot in your life or if you just want to make sure you hit the nail on the head this Christmas. Their seasonal collection of charms are actually quite sweet.

Finchittida Finch: The Empress Collection Launch Party

Whilst some of us would choose to express our heritage  through our choice of football team or culinary preferences, identical twins Tida and Lisa have launched their fashion jewellery label, Finchittida Finch, with their Lao and British ancestry right at the heart of their brand.

Having established their first pop up shop in Box Park in Shoreditch last year they have since launched their jewellery online  and can now be found stocked online at ASOS and in selected Urban Outfitters stores and online.

Their second pop up shop  launched in Shoreditch this month, celebrating the launch of their second collection, The Empress Collection. This statement jewellery embodies the beauty of Laos temples and culture, inspired greatly during their recent trip to their mother’s homeland, paired with their passion for empowering women through their ethos, and this all results in utterly beautiful designs… And quite frankly if you’re not about sentiment you’d only have to place their Empress Crown on your noggin and see what kind of feelings it evokes.(I’m buying one for my feeling ‘anything less than absolutely awesome’ days, because it’ll bring me right back up to stature!)

Lacoste L!VE AW14 House Party

Lacoste L!VE has launched! So I swung by to their AW14 House Party to have a whiff and check out the collection.

Cat FOley Lacoste LIVE! AW14 House Party Launch

Themes for this season covered the spectrum of pastels and structured tailoring for the girls, with the metallics and scuba style still pulling rank as I noticed this dress calling for a day to night event.

Colours for the season still played with pastels but deeper and richer ones with flirty and fun patterns still a key look, matched with heavy knitwear in the fashion of these great jumpers and cardies

FASHION: UNIQLO: Sub-zero degrees.. Better turn up the HEAT[TECH]

It’s the time of year where romantic notions of enjoying hot coco whilst watching the snow outside collide with the dire reality of layering up to buy the mince pies. Staying warm and avoiding a Rudolph-red nose cold can cause more fashion faux pas and uncomfortable layering than the seasonal spirit can handle!

So whilst you’re out and about buying all those last minute presents, treat yourself to some of UNIQLO’s new HEATTECH range, I’m currently living in them and I’m backing them as a staple wardrobe requirement.

Uniqlo’s new HEATTECH range captures and contains body heat and moisture within its newly engineered fabric, converting the moisture back to heat (it’s new Japanese technology not the magic of Christmas that does it!)

Yes, it could be argued a few jumpers and long layers may do the same, but frumpy and flustered when Christmas shopping is usually a combination many of us wont risk to avoid the cold. Fear not,  not only does one layer of HEATTECH provide the ultimate in warmth, it’s fabric is beautifully soft, stretchy, durable and lightweight, making it suitable under a dainty top or shirt, on it’s own, or as an extra layer; without feeling two sizes bigger, over dressed and keeping it stylish.

With styles ranging from long sleeved tops to rollnecks and camis, for men and women with leggings, lace styled versions and further accessories to make keeping warm stylish. Prices starting at £7.90 means feeling fabulous and warm this winter has never been more affordable and fashionable.

Happy shopping!!

FASHION: David Koma: Front Row Lessons…

David Koma was eagerly anticipated, assured I would love his collection, it promised to be sexy, edgy and girly in its emphasis on the swing skirts and hips… And oh how right they were. Inspired by female tennis the theme started at my (ehem) front row perch, where a bag of tennis ball themed chewing gums just waited to be squashed as I flustered to organise myself…

Photo by Martin Zahringer – martinzahringer.com

(Hold tight for one moment) NB: With great power – AKA ‘Front Row’, holds great responsibility you know. The rules: Look effortless, flawless and hold a pose somewhere in-between intrigued and informed, whilst at all times never looking too keen about anything.

So there I was, trying to arrange two bags suitably under the teeny bench, (note one was a tote full of what can only be called ‘stuff’) whilst deciding how I should sit as not to lose all dignity in my dress, still trying to avoid sitting on the tennis ball chewing gums.

[Do celebrities go on a course to learn how to cope? Panic management, stressful situations, distraction techniques, posture and placement, because personally it was like dealing with an agility course wearing a fat suit, I’ve never over thought sitting down so much in my entire life.]

Anyway, eventually sat down with Corinne to my right, suitably happy that no one was asking me for an interview or photo every two seconds… Or at all. Of course, I’ll have my ‘what I love most about Fashion Week’ speech prepared next year.

The show was as beautiful as proposed, structured patterns reflecting tennis racket design incorporated a stunning mix of silhouetted femininity through sheer cage tops and bodycon dresses with structured shapely lines, tailored folds and beautifully beaded definition. Top-to-toe, heels were designed on racket handles.

Hips were a big hit here too, as pleats were adapted onto most of the collections, the movement of which poked flirty fun into this demure yet bold collection, sculptured plaited hair by Kenna added a girlish wink to the sleeked back style.

The experience overall it was a multitasking disaster, taking photos, attempting to look effortless whilst doing so didn’t quite work out, and oh look! Here’s me sorting those bloody bags out again…
