Sennheiser teamed up with Currys and PC World and invited me to the ultimate music event, having such a love for music and having recently lost my set of headphones to a curious cat, naturally I said yes. Eager to find out whether my next pair should be a Sennheiser investment I was excited to try them out.
What night, cocktails, sliders and canapes to keep it cool whilst everyone mingled and took a little look at the shiny new headphones Sennheiser are releasing on their 70th anniversary, though this felt more like an awesome birthday party to me.
The night sparked up with a collection of activities – DJ masterclasses took place with John the Baptist, an up and coming British DJ… we say masterclasses, I’m not sure I mastered anything despite his brilliant techniques, but it was good fun (I’ll stick with just putting in my requests and dancing my toosh off).
I had a look at modern vinyls and let me say it here first – they’re back! Take that MP3! But this time they’re distinguishingly white – looking mucho modern! And let’s be honest, where music is concerned bigger is better, bigger sounds, bigger quality, bigger entertainment and these new vinyls give oh so much more!
Sennheiser told us about their new model, Momentum 2.0 which they has been released in time for their 70th anniversary – to firstly say they’re pretty damn near indestructable, with wires that have been tried and tested, bent and flex to the point of exhaustion (10,000 times if I remember correctly) whilst the frame itself is made of super flexible and durable stainless steel, the headphones are guaranteed for two years with all individually replaceable elements – I did mention my cat that loves to chew headphone wires (something that I imagine any level of quality would be hard pushed to survive unscathed!) But this is a level of high quality which we already know has been associated with Sennheiser since their conception – their quality is assured, how else can you remain in such a swiftly evolving industry for so long.
Though the quality of build is noticeably another level up with stainless steel flexibility, there’s an visually noticeable difference with the Momentum 2.0, they’re not only practical but they’re fashion conscious, they’re luxurious to the point that the size makes the statement even stronger, it’s a plus point not an inconvenience – you want these headphones hanging off your bag for a statement.
Really? I hear you ask. Why? Well, there’s the luxury leather that contrasts against the flexible stainless steel, these babies come in either ivory or black and basically – I love them! I mean, it’s one of those items you’d purchase and keep protected like a treasure for fear of any damage for a good year and then find afterwards that even without all the fuss they’re still hanging off your bag relentlessly and proving to be worth their investment years later – classic yet luxurious.
Plus for people like me who like to completely block out the noise whilst listening to the Les Miserables soundtrack (oh the emotion!) these are the perfect, complete and utter escapism delivered by high quality sound through the most beautiful and comfortable headset. This is the sound of dreams. And admittedly I’ve never invested in a pair of top quality headphones, I’ve certainly never bought any over ear ones (not since the bright red ones on my cassette tape player circa 1993) but I have to say, hands up – I’ve been missing out.
Having done this for 70 years I’d say they’ve stepped into a new market of fans and bring with them the revival of better sound.
What do you think, would you wear over ear headphones? And would you be willing to pay more for a quality product over a fashionable cheaper brand?
